  1. What are the key conventions that help you identify the print text?
  • The centralised image of the Protagonist
  • The Logo and Title of the film
  • Review Quotes from critics
  • The setting e.g South East London tower blocks.
  • The Gun
Firstly, the focal image of the protagonist is a key factor in identifying the print text displayed above.
In addition, the recognisable logo and title of the film which is found on also the other publicised posters and the soundtrack cover. The logo is meant to reflect an image of council estates. This is deliberate as it is meant to mimicking the image of tower blocks as tower blocks are synergy for the setting of the film which is South East London.

  • Highlighted Quote
  • Logo/Title of the Film
Similar to the text print displayed previously, the protagonist is centralised along with the logo, ironically vomiting over the 'ill' title.
The quote 'we are all products of our environment..' works well with the poster featuring the tower blocks and trees as it referring to struggles that the underclass society have to face. However, the colour scheme is a lot more vibrant and vivid than the official and publicised text version of the film. Lastly, the placement of the title and the protagonist is repeated through the different posters used to promote the film.

The Title 'ill' mimics the tower blocks behind and is also within a semantic field for the setting and genre of the film.
The centralised gun in the poster is used to send enigma codes to the viewers in order to reveal the theme of the film similar to the council estate closely behind.
The sub title 'Plan B Presents' is used in our to attract those who are already familiar with work and brand of the director Ben Drew.
